The fabulous Comizo barbel target species on the SAS Spanish tripsWhen I was invited to fish in Spain for the first time I automatically assumed that it would be for the cats of the river Ebro, but how wrong I was, and happily so. This would be an excursion for the magnificent Comizo barbel. This barbel is very similar in looks to our river barbel, only growing much bigger (35lbs+) and with attitude to match. These fish are incredible fighters and in the Las Lagunas de Ruideras area we fish, reign supreme. When you hook these it is akin to hooking up a motorbike at 150 mph ! They literally scream off and if your tackle isn’t perfect you will be smashed up time and again.

Las Lagunas de Ruidera means the lagoons of Ruidera, and these lagoons are basically huge interlinked lakes. They are very weedy & incredibly clear (you can see every pebble on the lagoon bed in over 30ft of water !) and with depths to over 20m. You can fish for these barbel using conventional stepped up carp tackle & baits or predator style with lures, live and deadbaits, including crayfish, which are in the lagoons in vast numbers.
All the lagoons also hold carp (mirrors & commons) to over 30lbs & some to over 40lbs, with much bigger fish being regularly lost. Also present are pike to 40lbs +, black bass, rudd etc.
Your full time guide here will be Peter Staggs, who first opened up the barbel fishing some 12 years ago. After discovering the potential of the lagoons Peter soon moved there to live and is the local expert and top guide. If he can’t catch you fish here no one can.

We can offer the choice of accommodation at Peters splendid home close to the lagoons or you can bivvy up and still use the showers and other facilities at Peters.

We can supply all tackle and bait or you are free to bring your own.

This trip is very flexible and can be as short as a couple of days to as long as you want.

Trip FactsYou have the options of flying in to Madrid, Alicante or the newly opened Ciudad Real airports, from where you will be collected by Peter.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
