While I have had some good zander over the last couple of seasons, I wanted to learn more about how Steve fishes,  his methods, tackle, bait and areas fished etc, so I booked a night with him.

We met at his shop and he told me roughly where we would be fishing, but when we were driving there I was soon completely lost. He went across farm tracks and over fields to a place I didn't even know existed.

The weather was terrible when we got there, with  gales, and freezing cold rain, but Steve said this wasn't a problem for the fishing. He was soon proved right, when I got a run on a dead roach fished close in. As soon as Steve netted it we both knew it was a big fish and it weighed in at 13lb !

What a  night for me. I expected to learn a few tips on rigs and stuff, and hopefully catch a zander or 2, but never expected to  get a fish of this size.

I can' t praise Steve highly enough. Even if I hadn't caught this fish I would still have had a great session and learned a lot about zandering, in general, including don't be put off by a bit of bad weather !!

For anyone wanting to catch their first zander or to improve their skills and knowledge then Steve is the man to teach you.
