Tackle and Gun mag mystery shopper report

First lmpressions

Now then, this is how to make a sign that you can read! This was a great start; no passing this one by. It may not be everyone's taste in sign writing, but it was big and you know you are going to get a very good tackle shop to match the sign. What a great start. 8/10

Step Inside

As I walked in I was acknowledged and asked if I needed help. The staff weren't pushy, and I was allowed to browse around. Once I had had long enough to look around I was approached to see if I needed specific assistance. 9/10

Stay Clean

This was a new shop that was well thought out, clean, bright and tidy. Attention to detail was in evidence and this made it a pleasure. 8/10

Show It Off

Ample use of manufacturers' displays, boards and POS made it a doddle to find product. The labeling was good, the rod racks and reel displays were all equal to the standard - all very impressive. 8/10

Help Me?

Once again, the assistance matched the whole experience so far - way above average. A really helpful chap put up with my tricky requests without once questioning my judgment (and to be fair I would have deserved at least a raised eyebrow). 8/10

Know Your Stuff?

I had a really in-depth discussion with the member of staff who was excellent. He was a chap who had pride in the shop, the products and had knowledge of fishing and the local sport. This was all very good indeed. 9/10

Pushy Or Pleasing?

I received a decent neutral view of the brands that were available that was unbiased and intelligent. These are more good marks that were well deserved. 7/10

Do I Need This?

There was plenty to choose from, with many of those little extras that you very often didn't realise you wanted until you spotted them on the peg. Although there was plenty of choice, no unnecessary tackle was suggested or sold. Good marks again. 8/10

After Sales?

No discounts or credit were offered and there was no necessity for that anyway. The warranty or complaints policy was simple and fair: if it didn't work or was broken, bring it back and they would deal with it - simple, sensible and clear. 8/10

What's Happening And Where?

This was a bonus. I was given very good advice on the local venues, methods, baits, what you needed, who you needed to see and how to fish the venues - brilliant stuff. 8/10

Tackle and Gun rating - 81/100 and Summary:This is a great shop in a new industrial estate that was, for once, graced with a huge sign that you couldn't miss, so finding it was really easy! Parking was easy, right outside the shop. Inside the shop was clean, bright and tidy with good displays of rods and reels and plenty of manufacturers' point of sale to be seen.
This is a good shop with local knowledge and really helpful staff and great displays.
This is a shop that any predator angler wanting to fish The Fens really should visit.
